Abstrakt: Efficient logistic processes have become a cornerstone of modern economy. Solutions applied in intralogistics integrate trends prevailing in various areas of modern socio-economic life. Automation is one of them. This paper examines opinions of warehouse workers on selected technological solutions, especially in the area of automation, implemented in warehouses of manufacturing companies. Apart from the general attitude of warehouse workers to automation of warehousing processes and identification of warehouse zones where automation can bring the most benefits, their willingness to work in a warehouse where state-of-the-art technology is used has been examined. The study uses the questionnaire survey method. The study sample includes warehouse workers and individuals with experience in the handling of warehousing processes in manufacturing companies. It follows from the study that warehouse staff members have a moderately positive attitude towards automation. Many modern technological solutions are expected to provide support rather than pose a threat to the jobs. Nonetheless, the respondents are aware of related challenges and are able to identify concerns with reference to some of the solutions. The outcomes of this study may support management staff in decision-making concerning the implementation of new technological solutions.

Abstrakt: This research responds to the needs of the shipping industry seeking optimal processes and mechanisms for successful innovation. The study aims at identifying the key factors underlying successful adoption of technological innovations in sea shipping, broken down into three critical research areas: technology readiness, social acceptance, and technology implementation process. The findings have been obtained using a mix-method approach combining patent analysis, survey analysis, structured interviews, and R&D projects analysis. The results indicate that the maritime transport lags behind other industries in terms of developing and implementing new technologies, and relies on technologies which have been tested and adopted in other market segments. The research has proven that the social groups most affected by the implementation of innovative marine technologies are highly enthusiastic about them. The key success factors include compliance of the innovation with future legal requirements and involvement of maritime carriers or sea transport operators in the implementation process.

Abstrakt: The Urban Consolidation Centres (UCC) are well-known city logistics solutions. Many of their advantages are described in papers and reports. Abstrakt: Reliance on the sharing economy is becoming crucial to the functioning of modern cities. Certain sharing economy-based solutions can contribute to the development of sustainable urban freight transport by reducing the number of delivery vans in service and using green vehicles. This paper evaluates the potential of the sharing economy for freight deliveries in the Polish cities. The authors examine two types of sharing platform-based solutions for light commercial vehicles (LCV), namely LCV-sharing and crowdshipping, along with the general perception of sharing platforms by the Polish citizens and their motivation to use them. Two research methods have been employed. The multi-case study method has been applied to assess the LCV-sharing market and identify the best crowdshipping practices. General interest of the public in the sharing economy has been examined by means of a survey analysis. The results show that, albeit with little market presence, the LCV-sharing is continuously winning new customers in the major Polish cities. Provided by car-sharing operators who have expanded their offering with delivery vans, or by operators who target the freight market alone, the service is a more environmentally-friendly and economical alternative to leasing, especially for companies which do not need extensive use of delivery vans. Further development of LCV-sharing depends largely on availability of the service and its price, as well as on the general awareness of benefits from the sharing business model and the strengthening of confidence in it.

Abstrakt: Cooperation platforms are becoming more and more popular in many countries with various characteristics about economic, social and culture background. The subject is an extremely topical and important issue and, at the same time, it is still insufficiently analysed. Literature considers collaborative consumption business models, at the level of the idea itself, as acting in the spirit of sustainability. The research question in this paper concerns the perception of collaborative platforms activities by potential and actual users in three main areas representing the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) concept—economic, social and ecological. The main research method was a survey addressed to current and potential users of such platforms. The survey was conducted in Szczecin, Poland. Respondents were asked to express their opinion about the extent to which collaborative platforms can contribute to protecting the environment, strengthening interpersonal relationships and improving the financial standing of households. The results show that the respondents give highest ranks to the social aspect of the platforms. The opinion about possible contribution to the improvement of the financial situation of households or positive impact on the natural environment is weaker.

Abstrakt: This article discusses the issue of seaport competitiveness. This is one of the most important issues in port studies. Conducting a port competitiveness analysis focuses on comparing components of port competitiveness for selected ports or terminals. First, a comparative analysis of selected seaports was performed in the article, followed by a detailed analysis of selected terminals in indicated ports.The main purpose of the article is to assess the effect of the new investment in the seaport in the town of Police (the construction of the railway connection with the national network) on its competitive position in relation to seaports in the immediate vicinity.To achieve the assumed goal, the following research methods were used: literature review, documentary method, linear weighting method,and variant analysis. The areascovered by the research study are selective seaports in Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship (Szczecin, Świnoujście, and Police), Poland. Based on the research studies completed so far, it wasshown that connecting a seaport with the national rail network may be a significant factor affecting the port’s competitiveness in relation to the ports located in the direct vicinity.

Abstrakt: In recent years, intensive development of sailing tourism has been observed in various regions of the world. This is a beneficial phenomenon from the point of view of sustainable tourism development because sailing yachts are powered by the wind and therefore do not emit exhaust gas into the atmosphere. Tourists usually travel in small groups, which is not mass tourism that disrupts local communities. It is tourism practised in close contact and with respect for nature. The conducted research combine sailing tourism and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools which are insufficiently used by entities associated with the sailing tourism market. Sailing market research allowed to identify the need to design a comprehensive e-platform for sailing tourism. Its functionality would not only allow a wide presentation of the offer and reach a wide range of tourists but also enables transactions. The aim of the paper is to develop the original concept of a business model of e-platform for sailing tourism. The presented concept is grounded on modified Business Model Canvas (BMC) in terms of its structure and operationalization. The role of cooperation for the development of sailing tourism between private entities and representatives of regional institutions and organizations at national and international levels was emphasized. The cooperation manifested in the integration of activities will allow creating a product commonly used by tourists.

Abstrakt: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the access-based consumption model, which is becoming an alternative to the traditional ownership-based model. The development of business models based on collaborative consumption has become possible, among others, thanks to the development of ICT tools and easy access to the internet. The paper focuses on examining users’ opinions on the technological aspect of the functioning of sharing platforms. The following research question was asked: Do concerns of using technological solutions discourage the use of collaborative platforms? The research method used in the paper was a survey addressed to current and potential users of such platforms in Szczecin, Poland. The survey covered 403 respondents. In order to present the results, descriptive statistics were used and the Technology Fear Index (TFI) was constructed - a management tool that informs about the size of respondents’ fear of technologies used by collaborative platforms. The results showed that there are concerns of using technology, although they cannot be considered a disincentive to the use of collaborative platforms. A solution that can minimize users’ concerns may be a wider inclusion of external trusted websites responsible for e.g. identity management and mobile payments. Reducing some of users’ concerns may also be ensured by the platform’s participation in a cross-community reputation system.

Abstrakt: Blockchain technology is mainly implemented in the financial services. However, there are more and more companies from different industries considering the possibility of using this technology. Potential benefits of blockchain are also recognized in logistics management. In sea shipping similar to other transport modes the application of blockchain-based solutions is still a new phenomenon. The paper presents a growing interest in blockchain technology in the area of transport and logistics and in maritime logistics in particular. The main aim of the paper is to classify current and planned applications of blockchain technology in sea shipping. To achieve this goal, two research methods were used: web content analysis and multi-case study. The results show that there are several container shipowners active in the blockchain projects, however, in terms of tonnage, they represent as much as 84% of the world’s container fleet. Four main ways of developing blockchain technology in the field of maritime logistics management are distinguished: shipowner’s projects, ICT providers’ projects, supply chain operators’ projects, dedicated consortia projects. The main fields within which blockchain technology is currently tested or already implemented are identified as: contracting and documentation flow (e.g. Bill of Lading), smart contracts, container/cargo track-and-trace, marine insurance, ship register system, bunker tracking system, crew certification system. The results of the paper have some managerial implications. They can help in making strategic decisions by sea shipping companies and maritime logistics operators to decide if it is worth to engage in such projects and choose the best option for themselves.

Abstrakt: The concept of a sharing economy, as part of a wider collaborative economy concept, is among the most important economic and technological trends that will influence socioeconomic development in the future. Interest in using the opportunities offered by sharing platforms is increasing; hence, the subject is a current and important issue. Confidence in technology, service providers and application providers is a key issue when making decisions about using such solutions. The aim of the paper is to examine the level of trust in sharing economy business models considering two groups of factors, trust in people and in technology, among several demographic groups. The paper has an empirical character and the results are provided on the basis of a survey conducted in Szczecin, Poland, with 403 respondents who are current and potential users of sharing platforms. The obtained results show that platform management requires more attention focused on building mutual trust networks among participants rather than strengthening the confidence in using the technology.

Abstrakt: The paper uses a bibliometric approach to quantitatively assess current research trends on idea of sustainability in seaport cities. Content, structure and connections between port city and sustainability issues are especially looking for. The aim is to get an overview of that research field, find how different subfields are connected and find the potential opportunities for bridging the gaps between subfields. The tools of bibliometric analysis – a map of the links between the keywords and keywords density map – are used to identify important areas in port city research field. Findings show that the most important research field of port city can be divided into four clusters which are devoted to environmental issues, port activity, waterfront development and sustainability matters.

Abstrakt: The purpose of this article is to present the concept of creating the Internet platform for yacht ports. Based on previous research conducted in selected yacht ports and marinas in Poland, the problem of the lack of unified information presented on the websites of yacht ports was formulated. The existing situation has a negative impact on the image of ports and, consequently, on their development. It is also a difficulty in obtaining information by both sailors and other entities participating in tourism. The unified formula provided by the Internet platform can be a solution to this problem, and the results of the research presented in the article fill the research gap in this area. While conducting the research, a questionnaire method, website exploration and the Business Model Canvas were used.

Abstrakt: The aim of the article is to present results of research on the use of internet platforms in nautical tourism. For the purposes of this article, a research hypothesis has been made that platforms can be a helpful tool for boaters and cruise planners. For the needs of the study, research was conducted among representatives of yacht port operators operating in selected Baltic countries regarding their opinion on the possibilities and legitimacy of using online platforms in their daily work. In addition, selected internet platforms were assessed according to the adopted criteria. While conducting the research, a survey method was used. A group of experts was surveyed using a standardized questionnaire, and websites were explored. The obtained results allowed to establish that the tool such as internet platforms is not often used in nautical tourism, while its use is justified and could be helpful for tourists, e.g. when planning cruises. The article presents conclusions that may serve as recommendations for the creation of a comprehensive tool supporting the process of booking berths in ports, yacht charter and planning a cruise.

Abstrakt: The paper is to explore a bibliometric approach to quantitatively assessing current research trends on the idea of green shipping issues. The paper is especially looking for content, structure and connections between research on shipping and sustainability matters. The aim of the paper is to identify dominant subfields from green shipping practices research field and find out how they are connected with each other. The bibliometric tools are used—trend analysis as well as mapping and clustering of keywords. The findings show that the papers covering green shipping area can be divided into six clusters. The most important subfields focus on regulations imposed by International Maritime Organisation, new technologies (mainly connected with ship power) as well as productivity and outcome of shipping companies. Green shipping can be regarded as an umbrella which covers all processes from a ship lifetime—shipbuilding, environmentally friendly operations and sustainable ship recycling.

Abstrakt: W artykule przeanalizowano istotne aspekty CSR wymieniane w raportach społecznych wybranych przedsiębiorstw armatorskich, a także wskazano na podejmowane przez nich działania z tego obszaru. Celem było porównanie najważniejszych zagadnień strategii społecznej odpowiedzialności typowych dla podmiotów działających na rynkach: przewozów kontenerowych oraz morskiej żeglugi wycieczkowej, a także stworzenie zestawienia specyficznych kierunków działań podejmowanych przez liderów na tych rynkach. Wiele poruszanych przez armatorów kwestii jest podobnych niezależnie od obsługiwanego rynku. Jednocześnie wskazano na istotne zagadnienia, które można uznać za typowe dla każdego z analizowanych rynków. Warto również zauważyć, że niektóre hasłowo podawane przez armatorów określenia ważnych dla nich kwestii (np. łańcuch dostaw), choć brzmią tak samo, to są rozumiane w zupełnie inny sposób.

Abstrakt: Creating a CSR strategy and preparing a sustainability report has become more and more popular among a wide range of branches including the blue economy. The aim of the paper is to identify joint maritime industry initiatives promoting socially responsible shipping companies and to point out areas of interest for Corporate Social Responsibility raised by shipowners. The research question was asked about the identification of possible ways of understanding and implementing sustainable ideas in shipping companies operating in container market. In order to answer that question the multi-case study of container shipowners was prepared. Significant disparities in the approach to CSR are evident. They depend on the specificity of the company, primarily on the size of tonnage at disposal and market presence strategies. Leading shipping companies in the field of CSR are shipowners with significant market shares. They refer to CSR standards, participate in sustainable shipping initiatives, create coherent strategies that skilfully combine environmental, social and business goals.

W artykule przedstawiono narzędzia oddziaływania portów na proekologiczne zachowania armatorów oraz szczegółowo zaprezentowano konstrukcję najpopularniejszego z nich - Environmental Ship Index (ESI). Analiza zastosowania ESI wskazuje na duże zainteresowanie tym wskaźnikiem wśród portów zachodnioeuropejskich. Żaden z portów polskich nie uwzględnia go w swojej polityce taryfowej.

Abstrakt: Preparing a sustainability report becomes more and more popular among a wide range of branches including shipping and seaports. For majority of Polish ports preparing a formal CSR strategy is a new challenge. The aim of this article was to compare the way that selected European seaports chose to report and identify the most important topics of their sustainable activity. In order to answer the research questions the multi-case study of selected European ports was prepared. The strategy and identified topics in seaports that have prepared sustainability reports can be used in benchmarking process. Such a comparison can help Polish seaports avoid mistakes in preparing such reports by themselves in the future. The analysis showed that the most important sustainability topics are connected with employment and air emission. There were also themes specific for seaports activity like maintaining the water depths. Involvement the port stakeholders in prioritization process made the topics order suited all parties concerned in port operations.
